School of Ocean and Earth Science - State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology
2014 Annual Academic Conference Successfully Held
On Dec. 27 and 28, 2014, the 2014 Annual Academic Conference of the School of Ocean and Earth Science and the State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology was successfully held with about 80 faculties and postdocs participating.
Based on feedbacks from the State Key Lab’s International Review Group Meeting held this November, and the following Academic Committee Review meeting, Academician and Professor Wang Pinxian presented a keynote speech on macro planning for Tongji’s ocean sciences. Following his opening speech were five sessions targeting on five scientific questions, which were: water cycle and interaction between high and low latitude, carbon cycle and ocean biogeochemistry, marine tectonics and marginal basin evolution, marine sedimentology and sea-land interaction and seafloor resources and exploration methods. Each session was composed of several key presentations and free discussions.
Also during the conference, party chief of the School Prof. Geng Jianhua presented the School’s annual working report, director of the Lab Prof. Liu Zhifei reported on the annual work of the State Key Lab. Dean of the School Prof. Jian Zhimin announced individual winners and group winners for 2014 Dean’s Prize.
In the evening of 26 and 27, the School and the Lab held two forums for its technical staffs and researchers, gathering opinions and suggestions.
