Donation Ceremony Held: Software by Schlumberger
On Sep. 18th, 2013, a ceremony marking the donation of Schlumberger software to Tongji University was held in the School’s Ocean Building. President of Schlumberger China Mr. XU Chengzhu and Vice President of Tongji University Prof. DONG Qi attended the ceremony and signed the donation agreement on behalf of the two parts. Dean of the School of Ocean and Earth Science Prof. JIAN Zhimin hosted the ceremony, which was also witnessed by Mr. SONG Guangchen, manager of Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS), Ms. LIU Lina and Mr. LI Dan from SIS marketing department, as well as faculties and students from the School’s geophysics and marine geology departments.
Prof. Dong extended his sincere gratitude to the company for their donation of two sorts of seismic interpretation and logging software-Petrel and Techlog to the university for teaching and research uses, which could serve as a very good example of the university’s efforts to cultivate market-oriented talents. Mr. Dong also hoped that the two sides could further cooperative ties for promotion of engineering education in Chinese universities.
Mr. Xu gave out a presentation introducing Schlumberger. Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) is the world's leading oilfield services company supplying technology, information solutions and integrated project management that optimize reservoir performance for customers working in the oil and gas industry. And SIS is its operating unit that provides software technologies, information management, infrastructures services that support oil and gas industry core operational processes.
After the ceremony, guests from Schlumberger also visited the School’s Science Museum Undersea as well as the State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology.
Several graduates from the School are now contributing excellent works for Schlumberger, which helps foster a good relationship between the two sides, and this donation would serve as an opening of the new partnership. The School plans to provide tailored courses for practicing the donated software so as to cultivate the students with practical capacities.
