Lecture Speech by Prof. Bjørn Ursin from Norwegian University of Science and Technology
From May 22nd to 25th, Prof. Bjørn Ursin from Norwegian University of Science and Technology paid a visit to our school. During his four-day visit, he gave a lecture titled Numerical modeling of acoustic data by the tip-wave superposition method and the spectral element method in the school’s lecture hall on 24th, which was hosted by Associate Professor Jiubing Chen.
Prof. Ursin also had some in-depth discussions with our teachers and graduate students on exploration geophysics, sharing mutual ideas on theories and methods of offshore oil and gas exploration, and seeking for future cooperation concerning academic research, grads exchange and so on.
Mr. Bjørn Ursin received his MSc (1970) and PhD (1976) in electrical engineering at Norwegian Institute of Technology. In 1971, he was awarded a Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies in applied mathematics at the University of Grenoble. From 1975, he has held several research management positions with GECO, SINTEF, Merlin Profilers and SERES, before being appointed professor of Applied Geophysics at Norwegian Institute of Technology (now NTNU). Since January 2008, he has been a VISTA Research Professor at NTNU coordinating research with MSc and PhD students. The rewards he has received are: Norwegian Geophysical Award in 1985; the Conrad Schlumberger Award (EAGE) in 1993; the Statoil Research Prize in 2003; the Desiderius Award for lifelong achievement (EAGE) in 2008.
