The School’s Sixth Joint Committee Meeting Held

On Dec. 12th, 2012, the sixth Joint Committee Meeting of School of Ocean and Earth Science was held in the School’s Ocean building. Joint Committee members ZhiminJian, JianhuaGeng, Zhifei Liu, Shouye Yang, Chunfeng Li, Peng Yu and the school’s office administrators Dongxia Zhu and Shunsheng Qin attended the meeting, which was hosted by Liu.

The School’s 2012 annual performance allowance was first introduced in the meeting concerning its criteria, actual payment and feedbacks from school faculties, and the university’s vision on the reform of its payment system was also presented. Also, latest updates of the school’s Academic Committee meeting were introduced, issues including introduction of high-end experts from “Distinguished Visiting Professors” program, “Thousand Young Talents” program and so on, and the leadership’s outlines for enhancing the recruitment of technical and managerial talents were also introduced. The school will draw a comprehensive and scientific roadmap for the recruitment of talented staffs and carry out its talent-construction procedures.

This meeting also introduced current processes of the construction of our Nanhui Ocean Observing Base which is located in Lingang New Area, and suggestions were made on the allocation of our personnel within different disciplinary groups to the base, so that the school is able to make full use of this advanced ocean observing platform for its better development.

Participants of the meeting also had an intensive discussion on the annual assessment of our full-time teachers. They all agreed that the 2012 Annual Assessment organized at the end of last year was a good start. Full-time teachers are the core strength for our disciplinary development, and a reasonable and effective assessing system will definitely stimulate the growth of our school and our young teachers. The managing rules and regulations for the school’s post-doctoral research station were also discussed, and preparatory work for the coming education assessment on undergraduate programs as well as the enrollment for graduate programs were also presented in the meeting.

The Joint Committee members also decided to hold a plenary meeting for the announcement and communication of related issues on March 12th in the school’s lecture hall.

This Joint Committee Meeting is the first one held this year. Since the joint committee system, a decision-making mechanism took into effect in June, 2012, it has been playing a leading role in the improvement of awareness of school leaders and administrative staffs to provide better managerial services, and has helped the leadership win “excellent team” prize in the university’s 2012 annual assessment. In this year, the Committee will continue to improve its working manner, to gather strength and collect wisdom by linking school faculty members more closely, to enhance communication and improve efficiency, so as to create a good working atmosphere for the school’s disciplinary development.
